What Are The Different Types of Gate Clips?
When installing your chain link fence, it's important to choose the right parts for your budget as well as your needs. One of the more difficult parts to decide on is a gate clip as they perform similar functions despite looking quite different. They can be shaped differently, some are taller than others, some are thin and lightweight, and some are better for certain fences than others, overall the process can be difficult and costly if you choose the wrong gate clips. Luckily, we're here to give you the information you need to build a cost effective, high-strength fence that'll last for years to come.
What do Gate Clips do?
Gate Clips are designed as a simple, convenient way to create additional tension of your chain link mesh as well as securely fasten your tension bars to your top or bottom rails. This is typically cheaper and more aesthetically pleasing than using bands and bolts though not quite as strong. Generally, these are used on chain link gate frames rather than typical fence runs, though they can be used this way. Gate Clips are best used on residential properties with standard or light duty fences, though some types can be used in commercial fencing.
Straight Gate Clips:
Sometimes referred to as Standard Gate clips, come in a triangle-like shape with a straight, open ended side that hooks around the top or bottom rail of your chain link fence. The smaller hook slips over your tension bar, joining the pair together, then, with the use of a Gate Clip Crimper, bend the larger, straight end of the clip over your rail.
C-Type Gate Clips:
Already mostly bent into shape, C-Type gate clips serve a similar function to straight gate clips with the added benefit of being manufactured already curved, needing less bending to fit tightly on your rails. This makes them stronger as less stress is put on their points of contact, making them a great option for heavier, commercial fencing.
Quick Gate Clips:
Functioning identically to C-Type gate clips, Quick Clips are a smaller, slightly lighter alternative gate clip perfect for light-duty garden fencing with a cost-effective yet strong build. Made of the same hot-dipped galvanized steel and offering the same strong C-shape, quick clips offer an easy-to-install gate clip solution for your fencing needs.

How to Install Gate Clips
As mentioned before, you're going to want to use a special Gate Clip Crimper to properly bend your gate clips into place. Simply hook the smaller end of your tension bar and the larger end over your top or bottom rail of your chain link fence, typically your gate frame. From here, align your crimping tool over your gate clip and squeeze both of the arms together. This will bend your gate clip into shape, creating a tight connection between your tension bar and the rail.
